This is a huge book; put legs on it and it could be a coffee table. There are over 1000 photographs on over 500 pages, and within those pages are designers, fashion writers and editors, rock stars, movie stars, and—of course— magnificent models wearing a stunning variety of apparel. While learning a bit of fashion history, readers will stumble across amusing gossipy bits; while viewing clothing that is beautiful beyond description, they will come across items that will make them ask “What is that?”
From classic Chanel couture to a dress made from plastic shopping bags, FASHION includes it all—the good, the bad, and even the ugly (it’s all a matter of taste) from the last century and a half of design.
Bottom Line: Would I buy FASHION? Unquestionably—it is a dazzling and comprehensive history of clothing and accessories. A leisurely read, a crash-course on designers, or a must-have for fashionistas, FASHION is a well written, beautifully produced volume that will provide many hours of pleasure (as well as inspiration).
